Love of Neighbour

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul "SVP"

Our parish has a small yet dedicated SVP group. Although small it is part of an international Christian voluntary organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. Active in England & Wales since 1844, today it continues to address social and material need in all its many forms.

Vision  - To bring the love of Christ to the poor and suffering across England and Wales

Mission - To seek and find those in need and to serve them through person to person contact, irrespective of age, colour, creed, gender or ideology.

Values

  • We are non-judgemental
  • We respect the dignity and wishes of the individual at all times
  • We are generous with our time, our possessions and ourselves

If you are interested in finding out how the Society operates in this parish please can come along to one of the regular meetings as advertised in the parish weekly bulletin.

Legion of Mary

A small but active group of ‘legionaries’ meets on Wednesday evenings.

The Legion of Mary is an apostolate concerned with the spiritual welfare of souls. No material or financial help is given. Members seek out people to visit in their homes or in hospital. They have a special concern for rejected members of society. Another apostolate is the visitation of homes to gently encourage households in the practice of faith. Helping parishes to compile a census can be a useful means of making contact with those who may have drifted away from the practice of the faith. In fact the list of activities can be endless and legionaries will expend their energies in the service of local needs anywhere.

If you are interested in finding out how the Legion of Mary operates in this parish please can come along to one of the regular meetings as advertised in the parish weekly bulletin.

There is a website produced by the Legion in Ireland with further information: http://www.legion-of-mary.ie/
